How to Prepare for Championships

3/31/2015

I am sure by now many of you are ready for April 11th and I will be there to cheer and boost your confidence. This is what I used to do to prepare:

Running - never ran distance, only sprint, up the hill .. and left foot hops, right foot hops with different tempo; side ways, again different tempo,... backwards, again different tempo.. broad jumps

Technique(s) - nothing new, mostly counter punches (tons of these), counter kicks (20-30 min. a day... SKIP TURNING KICKS - tons of them, one can never practice enough with these kicks...

Fitness - mostly dips and pull ups.. no heavy lifting..

But mostly my mind set, ... it always was how I prepared in my mind (some will say, mind body spirit or what ever they might call it..) I only prepared the only way I knew.. I also preferred to participate at championships where I didn't know anyone (later it got kind of difficult, because Korean instructors would recognize me,,) My reason was a "me alone" attitude and I did enjoy competing in more hostile environments.. this was in the early 70's.
